Lyceum For Elementary Enrichment & Test Prep:
Overview
Purpose: The general
purpose of the
Cambridge Lyceum For Elementary Enrichment & Test Prep
is to strengthen basic
skills and provide academic enrichment for academically promising
elementary school students.
Objectives: The
Cambridge Lyceum For Elementary Enrichment & Test Prep's
specific objectives are tailored to both the talent level of the
individual and the group. Topics covered in all groups include:
1. Mathematics: Teaches
techniques for enhanced speed & accuracy of basic
computational skills. Enrichment emphasizes number patterning
(including simple algebra) and sequential operations for success
with word problems.
2. Language Arts: Writing
skills (including grammar, punctuation, & spelling rules),
basic paragraph & essay formats, editing & rewriting, and
vocabulary development. Reading comprehension for major concepts,
inferences, and significant details. Enrichment includes
introduction to poetry, including classic poems & poetic
forms.
3. Enrichment:
 | Science: A special
science session each month will focus on a major scientific
discovery, principle, or invention including its history and
applications to today's world. The "Lyceum Learning
Lab" is a hands-on approach in which students utilize
scientific method and math principles to evaluate experiments. |
| Art: Art History (major
artists and art movements) and instruction each month to
develop visual perception and concentration. |
| Additional Enrichment:
Geography (4th grade), History, (5th grade), Philosophy (6th
grade).

Instructors: Lyceum
instruction is supervised by Lauren Meggison, Ph.D., Cambridge's
Director of Literature, Language Arts and Elementary Education.
Dr. Meggison and/or Cambridge Senior Staff Instructors provide
actual course instruction.
Students:
Cambridge Lyceum For Elementary Enrichment & Test Prep
students are enrolled at public and private schools
throughout the area. Transportation: Many
school buses stop in front of our classroom. Carpools can be
independently arranged from lists of participating families.
Group Size: Maximum
enrollment will be twelve students per class.
When: All Lyceum sessions
are attended once a week during the academic year (September -
June). A calendar of actual meeting dates is forthcoming.

Saturday Make-up Sessions:
For students who miss their regularly scheduled sessions, make-up sessions will be available on specified Saturdays
throughout the academic year. (Schedule is forthcoming.)
Fee Schedule: Tuition for
all Lyceum sessions is $25 per student per session
plus educational supplies. Tuition is billed in August,
payable in one reduced sum or in six monthly payments.
